Houston Grand Opera's
Madame Butterfly
Automated Cue System with Curtain Controls
|
The production required precision control of a multitude of screens which were lowered from the stored positions on a cue from the operator. This window shows the background American flag screens and the foreground Japanese screens. This is the cue positions for screens as the opera opened. |

The production required raising and lowering screens throughout the opera. Here, the actors are seated "stage front" with the foreground Japanese screens down. To the sides of the stage, "stage right" and "stage left," were also screens that were raised and lowered to keep preparations for the next act out of sight of the audience. Those screens were also controlled by the cue system designed by our software guru, Royce Mitchell, III. |

We used the Fincor ACX to control the screen movements. The simplicity of programming and the inexpensive price of these units and motor/gearbox combinations, helped to keep the project cost within budget. There were 17 of these units installed. They are moved around the country, and are used internationally, in the Madame Butterfly production by H.G.O. This system was installed in 1999 and is still in use! |
